About this Program

Mammography continues to be the most effective imaging modality for the early detection of breast cancer. Patient survival is significantly increased by early detection and treatment of malignant breast lesions. The Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) continues to ensure high-quality mammography by all facilities offering this service. Medical physicists play an important role in the oversight of quality assurance programs, machine performance and equipment purchases.

The agenda is comprehensive with our instructors’ expertise in the clinical use, scientific development and manufacturing of digital breast imaging technologies. A strategy for transitioning to the ACR DMQC Manual, understanding MQSA EQUIP, ACR’s role in digital mammography and breast density measurements have been added to this year’s program.

Medical Physicist Continuing Education

Attendance at this webinar helps meet the MQSA continuing education requirement for medical physicists in digital mammography (FFDM, DBT and stereotactic).

A forum on multi-vendor DBT QC procedures will be presented.

Educational Objectives

At the conclusion of this course, the participant should be able to:

  • Review design criteria differences between FDA approved DBT imaging systems.
  • Provide a thorough explanation of the EQUIP program as outlined by the MQSA.
  • Become familiar with the clinical signs of breast cancer and the approach used for diagnosis & treatment.
  • Review QC testing procedures and new system modifications for each FDA-approved DBT system
  • Review stereotactic breast biopsy machine testing procedures.
  • Discuss the benefits and strategies for transitioning to the ACR DMQC manual.

Meet your presenter(s)

Jerry A. Thomas

Jerry A. Thomas

MS, DABR, CHP, DABSNM

Jerry A. Thomas is a diagnostic medical physicist at the Ascension Via Christi Hospital  in Wichita, KS. Jerry holds a Master of Science degree in Radiation Biophysics from the University of Kansas and is board certified in Radiological Physics, Health Physics and Nuclear Medicine. He has more than 30 years’ experience in teaching, clinical service and research in many areas of medical imaging including digital breast tomosynthesis. Jerry also has extensive experience teaching technologists and students on medical imaging topics. MTMI is proud to have Jerry serve as an instructor for this important new diagnostic capability and share his knowledge with you.

Terri-Ann Gizienski

Terri-Ann Gizienski

MD, MPH

Dr. Gizienski is the director of breast imaging of Magee Women's Hospital of Cranberry, PA. Cranberry is located north of the city of Pittsburgh. She has previously been a speaker on all breast imaging modalities including stereotactic biopsies, ultrasound guided biopsies, MRI biopsies, breast ultrasound, MRI and tomosynthesis. She has spoken throughout the United States and also other countries such as Italy, Japan and Korea. Dr. Gizienski received her medical degree from Pennsylvania State University and completed her residency and breast imaging fellowship at the University of Virginia. She is interested in Automated Breast Ultrasound for dense breast tissue and extent of disease in newly diagnosed patients, and all types of breast biopsies.
