About this Program

Our students have a 91% pass rate when taking the board exam.

MTMI's PACS Administrator Course aims to provide all the essential skills and knowledge necessary to successfully plan, implement and maintain a PACS (now called MIMPS by FDA), or other radiology systems.

This program helps prepare healthcare informatics students for the Certified Imaging Informatics Professional (CIIP) certification exam. Major topics include a comprehensive guide to DICOM and HL7, Teleradiology, PACS architecture, integrating the healthcare enterprise, and electronic medical records. In addition, they will gain insights into the cutting-edge imaging informatics platform integrated into the system.

The deployment of Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS) in radiology is changing the way imaging services are provided. Enterprise PACS management represents an ongoing challenge for Radiology and IT personnel and their vendor partners.

What is a PACS Administrator?

A PACS Administrator is the healthcare professional responsible for the complex set of functions necessary to achieve successful informatics. These imaging informatics professionals must work with a foot in the clinical healthcare and information technology realms. Because of this, the most successful PACS administrators are adept at communicating with highly technical personnel while possessing a thorough understanding of the radiological diagnostic process and health imaging informatics. Attendance of this course earns you 3 points toward ABII's 7-point qualification system.

PACS Certificate Program Online

Due to the increased need of remote learning, the MTMI PACS Administrator Course has added a simulcast webinar to each course date. Remote students will be connected to the live classroom via Zoom and will have access to our cloud-based PACS platform. We know that offering this webinar will allow many who would not otherwise be able to attend the chance to participate.

Educational Objectives

At the completion of this course, participants will have:

  • Acquired the essentials in preparation for the Certified Imaging Informatics Professional (CIIP) examination, sponsored and accredited by the American Board of Imaging Informatics (ABII) which was founded by the Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine (SIIM) and the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
  • An understanding of the practical and operational issues essential to a successful PACS implementation.
  • A functional knowledge of day-to-day PACS maintenance activities.
  • A practical understanding of the DICOM and HL7 standards.
  • An understanding of how PACS integrates with other hospital systems.
  • The ability to troubleshoot PACS and RIS problems.
  • The ability to design and streamline workflow to suit the needs of an imaging system environment.
