About this Program

Stereotactic breast biopsy is used to obtain pathologic information from mammographic areas of suspicion. When a mass, microcalcifications, or area of abnormal tissue change exists, stereotactic breast biopsy offers a minimally invasive alternative to open surgical biopsy, often before a mass develops.

This webinar offers attendees the opportunity to learn the basics and the tricks of the trade from an experienced technologist and supervisor. MTMI believes this education will bridge gaps in training so that intelligent performance becomes your daily mode of operation in your imaging centers. Critical thinking becomes possible once attendees understand why and how this procedure is done. In addition to covering quality assurance and patient documentation, the seminar reviews the ACR accreditation requirements and fulfills the credits required for accreditation.

Educational Objectives

After this webinar, attendees will be able to:

  • Relate the history of the development of minimally invasive breast biopsy to current biopsy and needle options for detection of breast cancer.
  • Describe basic breast anatomy and function of the breast.
  • Describe calcifications and breast cancer.
  • Understand the principles of stereology and patient positioning to facilitate the success of the stereotactic biopsy.
  • Recognize appropriate techniques for the needle breast biopsy.
  • Troubleshoot to solve the biopsy challenges.
